Extended Wireless PTT Range

The PTT620A relocates the wireless PTT gateway antenna from inside the vehicle to an unobstructed exterior position. This can provide a more reliable connection between the Beam wireless handset and its base when personnel need to communicate while working away from the vehicle.

With a compatible Beam PTT-W1A system, the handset can operate at distances of up to approximately 500 meters or 1,640 feet under suitable line-of-sight conditions. Buildings, terrain, nearby equipment, and antenna placement can reduce the available range.

Fixed Vehicle Installation

The shark-fin antenna uses a bolt-through mount for installation on a vehicle roof or another suitable exterior surface. Its 5.2-meter cable provides routing distance between the antenna and the wireless PTT gateway inside the vehicle.

The antenna should be installed in an open location with minimal obstruction around it. Installation requires drilling and proper cable routing through the vehicle body.

Wireless PTT Compatibility

The PTT620A is designed for Beam wireless PTT systems, including the PTT-W1A Wireless Push-To-Talk Handset Kit used with compatible Beam DriveDOCK Extreme installations.

It carries the short-range radio connection between the wireless PTT handset and its gateway. A separate Iridium and GPS antenna is still required for the docked Iridium Extreme PTT phone’s satellite and location services.

Operational Applications

The antenna is suited to vehicle-based PTT installations used by transportation crews, field teams, emergency services, utilities, mining operations, and other organizations whose personnel may need to communicate while working outside the vehicle.
