Cobham Prism EXPLORER Mobile Gateway
Description
Extend Radio Communications Beyond Line of Sight
Traditional land mobile radio systems are often limited by terrain, infrastructure, or network coverage. The PRISM EXPLORER Mobile Gateway overcomes these limitations by connecting existing radio systems with satellite, cellular, and IP networks, allowing voice and data traffic to continue even when local radio coverage is unavailable.
Its automatic routing technology selects the best available network without requiring user intervention, helping field personnel remain connected during critical operations.
Supports Multiple Network Technologies
The gateway is designed to work with multiple communications bearers simultaneously. It can integrate with compatible satellite terminals, Ethernet networks, and up to two independent cellular modems, providing resilient communications even if one network becomes unavailable.
This multi-network architecture makes it suitable for highly mobile deployments where communications reliability is essential.
Compatible with Existing Radio Systems
Rather than replacing an existing radio network, the EXPLORER Mobile Gateway expands its capabilities. It supports many common analog and digital LMR platforms, including P25, DMR, TETRA, and other radio technologies, allowing organizations to extend communications without replacing existing infrastructure.
Typical applications include:
- Public safety agencies
- Emergency response
- Utility operations
- Mining sites
- Oil and gas operations
- Government fleets
- Military communications
- Remote field teams
Centralized Management with PRISM Portal
The gateway is managed through the Cobham PRISM Portal, a web-based platform that allows administrators to remotely configure talk groups, duplicate configurations across multiple vehicles, deploy over-the-air updates, and manage network settings from a central location. Advanced routing options and optional voice recording features simplify administration across large fleets.
Built for Mission-Critical Deployments
Designed for permanent vehicle installation, the EXPLORER Mobile Gateway is compact, rugged, and engineered for continuous operation. Voice traffic is optimized using efficient Voice-over-IP technologies, while 256-bit AES-CTR encryption helps protect sensitive communications across satellite, cellular, and LAN connections.
