Mobile Satellite Connectivity

The installed Kymeta KyWay system is designed specifically for mobile broadband applications. Its electronically steered antenna continuously tracks the satellite without mechanically rotating a conventional dish, allowing the truck to transfer data while moving. Satellite Phone Store currently lists service performance of up to 5 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload for the rental.

Actual availability and performance depend on the satellite service configuration, satellite footprint, operating location, network conditions, and clear visibility of the required satellite. Built for On-the-Move Operations

The KyWay terminal uses a low-profile Ku-band electronically scanned array rather than a mechanically steered antenna. It can scan through 360 degrees around the vehicle and up to 75 degrees off broadside, with a tracking rate greater than 20 degrees per second. This design was developed specifically to support communications from moving vehicles, vessels, and other mobile platforms.

Because there are no antenna-positioning motors or gimbals, the system also avoids many of the moving components associated with traditional mobile VSAT installations.

Rugged Satellite Hardware

The outdoor KyWay antenna assembly is rated IP66 for protection against dust and water exposure and is specified to operate from -25°C to +55°C. The terminal was also tested against recognized shock and vibration standards, supporting its use on vehicles operating in demanding field environments.

The antenna's low-profile form helps keep the satellite hardware integrated with the vehicle rather than requiring a large deployable dish each time connectivity is needed.

Simple Satellite Acquisition

The KyWay platform supports automatic satellite acquisition during startup, reducing the manual pointing normally associated with traditional VSAT equipment. Once the system is powered and properly configured, the electronically steered antenna locates and tracks the appropriate satellite automatically.

This makes the truck practical for operations where personnel need connectivity without repeatedly stopping to deploy and manually align a satellite antenna.
