Description
Certified Battery Replacement
The ACR 1102 battery is installed as part of an authorized service rather than sold for owner installation. A trained Battery Replacement Center technician opens the beacon, replaces its battery system, checks the housing and antenna, reseals the unit, and performs the required post-service tests.
ACR recommends certified service because opening an EPIRB without the correct procedures can affect its watertight seal and emergency performance.
Compatible ACR EPIRBs
The 1102 battery system is used with the following Class 2 beacon models:
- GlobalFix iPRO — RLB-36
- GlobalFix PRO — RLB-37
- Satellite3 406 — RLB-38
- ResQMate — RLB-40
The beacon model and product number should be checked before service because visually similar ACR EPIRBs may use different battery assemblies.
Battery Replacement Schedule
The replacement deadline depends on the specific beacon model and the date printed on its battery-expiration label. For applicable models, ACR documentation commonly specifies replacement five years after the beacon is placed into service or six years after manufacture, whichever comes first.
The battery must also be replaced after emergency use or any activation other than an approved self-test. The individual beacon label should be treated as the final reference for its service deadline.
Inspection and Testing
Battery replacement includes servicing the beacon rather than simply exchanging its cells. The technician checks the case and antenna for wear or damage, replaces applicable seals, verifies the water seal, and tests the beacon’s electrical and transmission functions before returning it to service.
Shipping and Hazardous-Material Handling
The 1102 assembly contains lithium metal cells, and the serviced EPIRB may be subject to hazardous-material transportation requirements. Rules can vary by carrier, destination, and shipping method.
Contact the selected Battery Replacement Center before shipment for packing instructions, documentation, and applicable hazardous-material charges.
