Certified Battery Replacement

The 1098.1NH is supplied as part of an authorized battery replacement service rather than as a loose battery for customer installation. ACR requires the RLB-35 EPIRB to be serviced by a certified Battery Replacement Center so the beacon can be correctly opened, resealed, and tested.

Battery and Seal Service

The RLB-35 uses four lithium manganese dioxide battery packs, with three 2/3A cells in each pack. During authorized servicing, the battery system and applicable seals are replaced, and the beacon’s water seal and electrical operation are tested.

Replacement Schedule

The battery must be replaced by the expiration date marked on the beacon and after any emergency activation or unintended activation that may have reduced the available operating capacity. ACR recommends confirming the required service interval from the markings on the individual EPIRB and its product documentation.

Model-Specific Compatibility

This service applies only to compatible ACR GlobalFix Class 2 EPIRBs identified as model RLB-35 and configured for the 1098.1NH battery system. It is not interchangeable with earlier battery configurations, even when the beacon housing appears similar.

Battery Replacement Center Only

ACR continues to support battery replacement for the RLB-35 through its network of certified Battery Replacement Centers. The beacon owner should contact the service center before shipping to receive instructions, pricing, and any required battery documentation.

However, lithium-battery shipping requirements can vary by carrier, destination, and whether the battery is installed in equipment. The service center should provide the correct shipping instructions before the EPIRB is sent.
