Permanent Terminal Mounting

The pole mount kit converts the portable EXPLORER 510 into a fixed-installation terminal and serves as a replacement mounting assembly for the EXPLORER 540. It holds the terminal securely against a vertical pole while allowing the unit to be positioned toward the appropriate Inmarsat satellite.

A stable installation is important because BGAN terminals use a directional antenna. The pole and supporting structure should remain rigid after the terminal has been aligned to help maintain a dependable satellite connection.

Adjustable Pole Attachment

The bracket wraps around a compatible pole and is secured using the supplied stainless-steel Allen screws. Cobham specifies the EXPLORER 540 mounting assembly for poles between 33.7 and 48.3 mm in outside diameter, corresponding approximately to nominal 1- to 1.5-inch poles.

The mount should be installed where the terminal has an unobstructed view toward the satellite. Buildings, trees, terrain, and other structures between the antenna and the satellite can interrupt or weaken the connection.

Outdoor-Ready Construction

The mounting assembly is manufactured from 2.5 mm powder-coated sheet metal and uses M6 stainless-steel Allen screws. This construction supports long-term fixed installations while helping the bracket withstand normal outdoor exposure.

The terminal’s environmental protection still depends on correctly installing its cables, cable glands, covers, and sealing components according to the relevant EXPLORER installation instructions.

Installation Hardware Included

The kit includes the pole-mounting assembly, twelve Allen screws, and the required Allen key. The bracket attaches directly to the mounting points on the EXPLORER terminal, reducing the need to source separate terminal-specific mounting hardware.

Care should be taken to use only the specified screws when attaching the bracket to the terminal. Cobham warns that mounting screws longer than 9 mm can damage the EXPLORER 540.
