Features:

The Cobham EXPLORER 710 Extra Antenna is a replacement detachable BGAN antenna module for the EXPLORER 710 satellite terminal. It combines the directional Inmarsat BGAN antenna, GNSS antenna, and adjustable support bracket in one assembly.

The antenna can remain attached to the transceiver for portable operation or be positioned separately using a compatible antenna cable. Detaching it allows the antenna to be placed outdoors with a clear satellite view while the transceiver remains in a protected, convenient location.

Satellite Phone Store can help confirm compatibility, select the correct cable length, and provide BGAN airtime and technical support for EXPLORER 710 deployments.

Description

Replacement Antenna for the EXPLORER 710

This antenna module replaces the detachable antenna supplied with the Cobham EXPLORER 710. It contains both the BGAN satellite antenna and the GNSS receiver used by the terminal for positioning and satellite acquisition.

It is a dedicated EXPLORER 710 component and does not operate as a standalone satellite terminal.

Attached or Separated Operation

The antenna can be connected directly to the EXPLORER 710 transceiver for compact portable use. It can also be detached and connected through a compatible TNC antenna cable, making it easier to position the antenna without moving the transceiver or connected equipment.

This arrangement is useful for temporary offices, broadcasting locations, field camps, shelters, and other installations where the best satellite view is separate from the main work area.

Directional BGAN Connection

The manually adjustable directional patch array must be pointed toward the serving Inmarsat satellite. It supports the Inmarsat I-4 frequency bands and extended L-band operation within applicable Alphasat coverage. Right-hand circular polarization is used for both transmission and reception.

The antenna should be installed with an unobstructed view toward the satellite and kept at least 1 meter from people during transmission.

Outdoor Environmental Protection

The antenna module carries an IP66 water- and dust-protection rating, allowing it to be positioned outdoors while the EXPLORER 710 transceiver remains protected indoors. Connections and cable routing must still be properly secured for the installation.

Cable and Terminal Requirements

A compatible EXPLORER 710 transceiver, BGAN SIM and service plan, and antenna cable are required for operation. The transceiver uses a female TNC antenna interface, and available EXPLORER 710 cable options allow the antenna to be positioned at different distances from the terminal.
