Satellite and LTE Connectivity Between Flights

The D2 Mach 2 Pro includes built-in inReach technology for satellite and LTE communication while on the ground. With an active inReach plan, pilots can use supported satellite messaging and interactive SOS services when cellular coverage is unavailable. LTE connectivity adds functions such as voice calling, messaging, LiveTrack location sharing, and access to connected information without relying on a nearby phone.

Satellite and LTE service availability varies by location and region. Garmin specifies that the watch's satellite and SOS functions are intended for use on the ground between flights and are not for use in flight.

Aviation Navigation and Mapping

The watch includes a worldwide aeronautical database with Direct-To navigation to airports, aviation waypoints, navaids, and intersections. Dynamic aviation mapping displays information such as airports, runways, airspace, and flight routing, while the HSI course needle helps show whether the aircraft is left or right of the intended course.

The D2 Mach 2 Pro is intended as a supplemental aviation tool rather than a replacement for certified aircraft instruments or primary flight information.

Weather and Pilot Tools

With the appropriate data connection, pilots can access aviation weather information including NEXRAD radar, METARs, and TAFs. Personal Minimums can be configured for conditions such as visibility, ceiling, and crosswind, allowing the watch to provide alerts when selected thresholds are exceeded.

Automatic flight logging can record flight information and transfer compatible data to a flyGarmin account. The watch also supports compatible Garmin Pilot and PlaneSync functions for users already working within the Garmin aviation ecosystem.

Display, Controls and Night Use

The 1.4-inch AMOLED touchscreen uses a sapphire crystal lens and 454 × 454 pixel resolution for clear maps, flight information, and everyday smartwatch functions. Physical buttons remain available alongside the touchscreen for practical operation.

A built-in LED flashlight offers adjustable white light and a red-light setting. Red Shift Mode changes the watch interface to shades of red to help reduce the effect of the display on night vision during low-light operations.

Battery Life and Everyday Use

Battery life reaches up to 24 days in smartwatch mode and up to 59 hours during the Fly activity with GPS and Pulse Ox enabled. GPS-only use is rated for up to 78 hours, while multi-band satellite positioning can provide up to 53 hours depending on settings.

Outside aviation use, the D2 Mach 2 Pro also includes fitness, outdoor navigation, sleep, recovery, health monitoring, music, Garmin Pay, and other everyday smartwatch functions.
