Communication Beyond Cellular Coverage

The inReach Mini 3 Plus uses the Iridium satellite network to provide two-way communication in areas without cellular or Wi-Fi service. With an active satellite subscription, users can exchange text messages, send check-in updates, share their location, receive weather information, and communicate through an interactive SOS session.

When paired with the Garmin Messenger app, the device can automatically use Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity when available and switch to satellite communication when those networks are unavailable.

Voice, Text, and Photo Messaging

A built-in microphone and speaker allow 30-second voice messages to be recorded and played directly on the device. Voice messages can also be displayed as text transcriptions when listening is inconvenient or impractical.

The touchscreen keyboard supports text messages up to 1,600 characters, along with emojis, reactions, and group conversations. Photos can be sent from a paired compatible smartphone through the Garmin Messenger app, while received photos can be viewed on the Mini 3 Plus color display.

Interactive SOS Support

The protected SOS button connects users with Garmin Response, a staffed international emergency coordination center. During an active SOS, users can exchange messages with response coordinators, provide location details, and share voice messages or photos that may help explain the situation.

Garmin Response can communicate with the user, designated emergency contacts, local search and rescue organizations, and other available emergency resources. An active inReach satellite subscription is required.

Navigation and Location Sharing

The inReach Mini 3 Plus includes multi-band GNSS support for improved positioning and provides point-to-point navigation, waypoint management, activity recording, and TracBack routing.

LiveTrack allows approved contacts to follow the user’s progress, including location, distance, time, and elevation. The Garmin Explore app adds offline maps, route planning, course navigation, satellite imagery, and synchronization of waypoints, activities, and recorded tracks.

Built for Outdoor Conditions

The compact housing is impact-resistant, tested to MIL-STD-810 standards for thermal, shock, and water exposure, and rated IP67 for protection against dust and temporary immersion in water.

The 1.9-inch sunlight-readable color display combines touchscreen control with physical buttons. This hybrid design provides convenient touchscreen operation while retaining button access in rain, cold conditions, or while wearing gloves.

Battery Life for Extended Trips

The rechargeable internal lithium-ion battery provides up to 350 hours with a location sent every 10 minutes under favorable conditions. Battery performance varies with tracking settings, tree cover, messaging activity, temperature, and satellite visibility.

Available operating profiles include:

• Up to 350 hours with 10-minute tracking and standard activity recording under full sky
• Up to 95 hours in the default performance messaging mode under full sky
• Up to 30 days with 30-minute tracking and standard activity recording under full sky
• Up to one year when powered off

The device recharges through its USB-C interface.
