Hughes HL1120W Penetrating Mount
The Hughes HL1120W Penetrating Mount provides a permanent mounting point for securing the HL1120W outdoor antenna directly to a suitable roof, platform, or structural surface. This version includes the 12 cm short stanchion, creating a lower-profile installation where additional antenna elevation is unnecessary.
The base can be attached using the supplied lag screws or through-bolts, depending on the mounting surface. Its adjustable stanchion allows the antenna to be set at the required 3-degree forward tilt for water drainage while maintaining the clear sky view needed for OneWeb LEO operation.
Satellite Phone Store can help confirm HL1120W compatibility and identify the cabling, grounding, power, and installation components needed for a complete fixed satellite deployment.
Description
Permanent Surface Installation
Unlike a ballasted non-penetrating mount, this model attaches directly to the supporting structure. It is suited for permanent installations on structurally appropriate roofs, platforms, equipment shelters, and other surfaces where drilling and mechanical fastening are permitted.
The mount may be secured using two 5/16-inch lag screws or four M8 through-bolts. The installer must select the appropriate method for the surface and ensure the structure can safely support the antenna and mount under local environmental conditions.
Short-Stanchion Configuration
The included short stanchion measures 120 mm and keeps the HL1120W closer to the mounting surface than the tall-stanchion version. This lower profile is useful where the antenna already has sufficient clearance from nearby roof features and other obstructions.
Adjustable Antenna Angle
The stanchion pivots around its lower mounting bolts so the installer can set the antenna to a 3-degree forward tilt. Hughes requires this angle to promote water drainage from the antenna’s upper surface. An inclinometer should be used to confirm the angle before all mounting bolts are tightened to their specified torque.
HL1120W-Specific Connection
A blind-mate guide attaches to the underside of the HL1120W antenna and slides into the stanchion during installation. The supplied hardware kit includes the bolts, washers, and spring locks required to assemble the mount and secure the outdoor unit.
Installation-Site Requirements
The installation location must provide a clear view of the sky between 36 and 90 degrees above the terminal. Cable routing, grounding access, local building requirements, and the structural suitability of the mounting surface should be evaluated before installation begins.
