Hughes 9502 Indoor Unit (IDU)
The Hughes 9502 Indoor Unit (IDU) is the modem component of the Hughes 9502 BGAN M2M Terminal, designed to provide reliable IP satellite communications over the Inmarsat BGAN network. Installed indoors or within a protected equipment enclosure, it connects to the external antenna and enables secure, always-on connectivity for remote monitoring, SCADA, telemetry, and other machine-to-machine (M2M) applications.
Designed for industrial, utility, oil and gas, environmental monitoring, and infrastructure applications, the 9502 IDU delivers dependable communications in locations where terrestrial networks are unavailable or unreliable. Its low power consumption, remote management capabilities, and compact design make it well suited for permanent unattended installations.
Satellite Phone Store provides expert support for Hughes BGAN M2M solutions, including compatible antennas, service plans, accessories, and technical guidance to help customers deploy reliable remote communications systems.
Description
Reliable Remote IP Communications
The Hughes 9502 Indoor Unit forms the communications core of the Hughes 9502 BGAN M2M system. Connected to an external BGAN antenna, it provides secure IP connectivity over the Inmarsat satellite network for remote assets operating almost anywhere in the world.
Supporting background IP services optimized for machine-to-machine communications, the IDU is commonly used for remote telemetry,SCADA systems, environmental monitoring, pipeline monitoring, and industrial automation. Features such as IP Watchdog and automatic PDP context activation help maintain continuous connectivity with minimal user intervention.
Designed for Unattended Operation
The 9502 IDU is engineered for installations that operate continuously with little or no on-site maintenance. Its compact enclosure can be installed inside equipment cabinets, communications shelters, or control rooms, while the external antenna is mounted outdoors for a clear view of the satellite.
Remote configuration and diagnostics can be performed through the built-in web interface, SMS control, or AT commands, allowing administrators to monitor and manage deployed terminals without visiting the installation. Firmware updates can also be performed remotely.
Low Power, High Reliability
Power efficiency is a key advantage of the Hughes 9502 platform. The modem is designed for low continuous power consumption, making it suitable for solar-powered systems and other remote installations where energy availability is limited.
Its rugged design and wide operating temperature range allow dependable operation across a variety of industrial and environmental conditions, helping organizations maintain communications with critical infrastructure in remote locations.
