Removable Vehicle Mounting

The magnetic mounts allow the C10 antenna to be installed on a suitable steel vehicle roof without drilling. This supports faster installation and makes it easier to remove or transfer the antenna when the vehicle or deployment changes. The C10 antenna can alternatively be permanently bolted to a roof bracket using its mounting holes.

Three-Point Support

The set consists of three individual high-intensity magnets, with one attached to each mounting leg of the C10 antenna. This three-point arrangement distributes support around the antenna and helps it remain level on the vehicle roof.

Each magnet uses a stainless-steel center bolt, rubber washers, a steel washer, and a protective nut. Hughes specifies an installation torque of 2.5 Nm for the mounting hardware.

Vehicle-Roof Protection

The magnets have a rubber coating, and additional rubber washers separate the mounting hardware from the antenna legs. These components reduce direct metal-to-metal contact during installation.

The roof should be clean before mounting because dirt trapped beneath the magnets may damage the vehicle finish. The mounts are intended for ferrous steel surfaces and will not secure properly to aluminum, fiberglass, or non-magnetic roof panels.

Operating Limits

Hughes rates the magnetic mount system to withstand wind force up to 100 mph when correctly installed. Antenna placement, roof material, surface condition, and installation quality can affect actual holding strength.

The antenna cable should also be secured at short intervals to prevent unsupported sections from vibrating during vehicle movement. Hughes recommends protecting the coaxial connector against moisture during installation.
