Handheld-Style Control for the IP501M

The HM-230HB gives the IP501M a handheld-style user interface. Rather than reaching for the radio’s main unit, the operator can use the microphone’s display, keypad, push-to-talk control, and speaker from a convenient position inside the vehicle or workstation. ICOM identifies it specifically as a CommandMic for the IP501M.

Display and Keypad

The built-in screen and 10-key keypad provide access to operating information and radio controls. The display can show:

• Time and date
• Channel number
• Current signal strength
• Other supported IP501M operating information

This arrangement is useful in commercial vehicles, dispatch positions, and other installations where the main transceiver may be mounted away from the operator.

Integrated Speaker and Microphone

The HM-230HB combines a microphone, push-to-talk control, and speaker in one unit. Its rated audio output is 0.7W, providing received audio directly at the operator’s position.

Environmental Protection

An IP55 rating protects the microphone against dust that could interfere with operation and water jets from any direction. Its operating temperature range of -20°C to 60°C supports use across typical vehicle and field conditions.

Installation Flexibility

The coiled cable measures 850 mm when curled. Compatible ICOM microphone extension cables can be used where the transceiver is installed farther from the operating position.
