Satellite PTT and GPS Reception

The AH-40 supports the 1610–1626.5 MHz satellite frequency range used by the IC-SAT100 platform, along with the 1575.42 MHz GPS frequency. This allows one external antenna to support both Satellite PTT communication and radio location functions.

In-Vehicle Operation

The magnetic base allows the antenna to be placed on a suitable metal vehicle surface, such as the roof, while the radio remains inside. Moving the antenna outside the vehicle helps prevent the body and roof from blocking the radio’s view of the satellites.

The cable should be routed securely and protected from sharp edges, pinching, and moving vehicle components.

In-Building Use

For indoor operation, the AH-40 can be placed outside a window or in another location with a clear view of the sky. This is practical for dispatch desks, security stations, temporary offices, and other fixed locations where the radio cannot receive a dependable satellite signal indoors.

Radio and Docking Compatibility

ICOM lists the AH-40 for use with both the IC-SAT100 handheld and IC-SAT100M mobile Satellite PTT radios. In a docked IC-SAT100 installation, it can be used with the BC-247 docking station and FA-S103U one-touch antenna connector.

A compatible cable or adapter may be required depending on the radio and installation configuration. The optional OPC-2422 provides an additional 5 m / 16.4 ft. coaxial extension when more distance is needed.

Installation Position

The antenna should be installed with the upper surface facing the sky and with as few overhead obstructions as possible. Buildings, vehicle structures, dense trees, and nearby equipment can affect satellite and GPS reception.
