ICOM Repeater CY-6302
Description
Upper-UHF Radio Coverage
The CY-6302 covers 450–512 MHz, distinguishing it from the CY-6301, which is intended for the lower 400–470 MHz UHF range. This makes the CY-6302 suitable for systems assigned frequencies above 470 MHz, including compatible public-safety, business, transportation, and institutional radio systems.
Actual operating frequencies must be programmed and coordinated for the intended region. Coverage depends on antenna height, terrain, surrounding structures, feed-line loss, interference, and overall system design.
Analog and NXDN Digital Operation
The CY-6302 supports conventional analog FM and NXDN digital communication through ICOM’s IDAS platform. Mixed-mode operation allows the repeater to recognize analog or digital transmissions on the same programmed channel and repeat each signal in its original mode.
This allows an organization to transition gradually from analog to digital radios instead of replacing every radio at once. The repeater supports 32 channels in one zone, with analog CTCSS and DTCS signaling and digital RAN access control.
Selectable Transmit Power
The repeater provides selectable output levels of 50W, 25W, and 5W. The highest setting supports wider-area installations when used with an appropriate antenna and feed-line system, while lower settings may be used for smaller sites, system testing, or applications where reduced power is required.
The repeater module is rated for 50W operation at a 50% duty cycle and continuous operation at 25W under the manufacturer’s specified operating conditions.
Integrated Rack-Mount System
The CY-6302 uses a 19-inch rack-mount chassis containing the repeater module, internal 110/220V AC power supply, temperature-controlled cooling fan, external battery connection, and system interfaces. This consolidated design simplifies installation compared with assembling the radio and power supply as separate rack components.
Depending on the ordered configuration, the chassis can accommodate compatible internal filtering equipment. A duplexer allows the transmitter and receiver to share one antenna, while a receive preselector helps reduce unwanted signals entering the receiver. The required equipment depends on the assigned frequency pair and site conditions.
Automatic Battery Backup
An external lead-acid or AGM battery can be connected for backup power. The internal power supply automatically transfers operation to the battery when AC power is interrupted and returns to AC operation when utility power is restored.
Battery capacity should be selected according to the required backup runtime, transmit duty cycle, equipment load, and applicable electrical requirements.
Expandable System Operation
The optional ICOM UC-FR5300 network/controller board enables additional system configurations and remote management functions. Depending on the hardware and software selected, the CY-6302 can support:
- Single-site NXDN trunking
- Multisite NXDN trunking
- Multisite conventional operation
- NXDN simulcast conventional operation
- Receiver voting
- Remote programming and monitoring over an IP network
These options allow the system to expand across additional channels, coverage sites, and operating areas as communication requirements change.
