Single-Fiber RF Connection

The FO-1V10 uses one fiber-optic connection to carry both transmit and receive signals between the antenna and the below-deck equipment. Intellian notes that fiber is smaller and more flexible than coaxial cable and supports connections up to 2 km without measurable signal loss.

This makes the system suitable for larger vessels where the antenna and communications room are separated by a long cable route or where conventional RF cabling would add substantial weight and signal loss.

Above-Deck and Below-Deck Modules

The Fiber Link system consists of a compact above-deck module installed inside the lower portion of the radome and a rack-mountable below-deck module. The two units convert the RF signals to optical transmission and back at the opposite end of the connection.

The FO-1V10 uses a standalone below-deck Fiber Link module. It should not be confused with the FO-1V40 configuration, which combines the below-deck Fiber Link equipment with an integrated Antenna Control Unit.

Compatible 1-Meter Antennas

The FO-1V10 is listed specifically for the Intellian v100, v100GX, GX100, and v100Ka antenna systems. Intellian also identifies these models as compatible with its standard VSAT Fiber Link platform.

Because Intellian offers several Fiber Link packages with similar hardware, both the antenna model and FO-1V10 part number should be confirmed before ordering.

Professional Fiber Installation

Installation should be completed by qualified maritime satellite and fiber-optic technicians. The fiber cable should be routed with appropriate bend-radius control, mechanical protection, strain relief, and vessel-approved cable glands.

The completed system may also require a vessel-length single-mode fiber cable, RF and modem cables, AC power connections, rack hardware, and the antenna’s separate control equipment.
