Centralized Multi-Antenna Management

The IM8 provides mediation between as many as eight antennas and eight satellite modems. Instead of treating each antenna and modem as an isolated system, it manages their available connections from a centralized platform.

The system can be used with different antenna models, frequency bands, operating modes, and satellite orbits. Intellian states that supported antennas do not have to be from the same manufacturer when compatible open interfaces are available.

Automatic Blockage Mitigation and Redundancy

The mediator can redirect connectivity when an antenna becomes blocked by vessel structures or another antenna or modem becomes the better available option. This supports planned and automatic handovers while reducing interruptions caused by blockage or equipment availability.

It also supports antenna and modem redundancy, dynamic modem-port allocation, and dual data-center configurations for installations that require additional onboard system resilience.

Multi-Band and Multi-Orbit Operation

The IM8 is designed for installations that may combine different satellite frequencies, waveforms, or orbital networks. It can support systems using GEO, MEO, and other compatible satellite architectures while coordinating how antennas and modems are assigned.

This makes it suitable for vessels with multiple VSAT terminals, hybrid satellite services, or connectivity arrangements that need to switch between networks according to availability and operating policy.

System Monitoring and Control

A graphical management dashboard presents antenna and modem configurations in one interface. The IM8 can also operate as part of Intellian Orchestra, where connectivity choices can be managed according to system conditions and defined policies.

The mediator is installed below deck in a dry, ventilated location near the antenna control units, satellite modems, and related network equipment. Installation and configuration should be completed by qualified maritime satellite technicians.
