Description
External Iridium Antenna
The included passive magnetic-mount antenna installs on a suitable metal section of the vehicle roof, where it can maintain a clear view of the sky. Its 5 m cable connects to the Iridium GO! through the supplied TNC-to-TS9 cable adapter, allowing the satellite antenna to remain outside while the device stays protected and accessible inside the vehicle.
The antenna operates across the Iridium L-band frequency range and uses right-hand circular polarization. It does not require manual pointing toward an individual satellite, but it must be positioned away from overhead obstructions and surrounding metal objects that could interfere with reception.
Secure Interior Mounting
The RAM suction mounting system attaches to a vehicle windscreen or other suitable glass surface. The Iridium GO! can be secured either through the included wall bracket and RAM round plate or directly through the threaded mounting adapter, depending on the preferred setup.
This keeps the terminal within reach without requiring a permanent dashboard modification. The device can also be removed from the mount and carried outside the vehicle after reaching the destination.
GPS Placement Requirements
The external magnetic antenna supports the Iridium satellite connection but does not provide GPS reception. The Iridium GO! device itself must retain a direct view of the sky for GPS functions, making a position between the dashboard and windscreen suitable in many vehicles.
The device antenna must also remain raised when the external antenna is connected. Raising the antenna turns on the Iridium GO! and enables transmission through the Iridium network.
Vehicle and Remote-Travel Applications
The kit supports communications for road travel and mobile field operations in locations where terrestrial networks are limited or unavailable. Typical applications include RV travel, off-road expeditions, remote property access, field inspections, humanitarian work, utility operations, and lone-worker communications.
When paired with an active Iridium GO! service plan and compatible mobile device, users can access supported calling, messaging, email, tracking, weather, and SOS functions through the Iridium GO! applications.
