Fixed External Iridium Connection

The antenna allows a compatible Iridium phone, hotspot, terminal, or docking station to operate from inside a vehicle, vessel, building, or equipment shelter. It should be mounted outdoors with a clear view of the sky and connected to the Iridium equipment through a suitable 50-ohm coaxial cable.

It is a passive antenna and does not require a separate power connection.

Helix Antenna Design

The antenna transmits and receives within the Iridium frequency band using right-hand circular polarization. Its helical element provides a broad hemispherical radiation pattern and helps reduce the effects of reflected or multipath signals.

This design is useful for fixed and marine installations where the antenna may experience some movement or where signals can reflect from nearby structures.

Threaded Pipe Mount Installation

The integrated 1"-14 threaded base fits commonly used marine and fixed antenna mounts. It can be installed on a compatible pole, mast, rail bracket, or other mounting accessory without requiring a ground plane.

The antenna should be mounted upright and positioned away from large obstructions and other transmitting antennas.

Rugged Outdoor Construction

The antenna is enclosed beneath a composite radome designed to resist UV exposure, impact, abrasion, solvents, and demanding environmental conditions. The assembly is hermetically sealed and rated for operation from -55°C to 85°C.

This makes it suitable for remote communications sites, maritime installations, industrial facilities, and other locations where the antenna remains permanently exposed.

Cable and Equipment Compatibility

The S53IR16RR-P-M14TB-1 configuration uses a female TNC bulkhead connector. The required antenna cable must have a matching TNC male connection at the antenna end and the correct connector for the Iridium device or dock at the other end.

Cable length and signal loss should be considered when planning the installation. The antenna cable, Iridium device, SIM card, and service plan are not included.
