ICOM PTT VE-PG4 RoIP Satellite Gateway Server
Description
Connect Different Radio Systems
The VE-PG4 converts and routes audio between communication platforms that would not normally work together. It can connect analog and digital land mobile radios, marine and aviation radios, LTE systems, Wi-Fi radios, IP phones, and Satellite PTT equipment through an IP network.
This is useful for organizations that operate several radio technologies but need users on those systems to communicate without carrying multiple devices.
Satellite PTT Integration
Connecting an ICOM IC-SAT100 or IC-SAT100M allows land-based radio groups to hear Satellite PTT conversations and respond directly to the satellite talkgroup. This can extend communication between remote field personnel and teams operating on local radio infrastructure.
The ICOM OPC-2412 connection cable is required when connecting an IC-SAT100 to the VE-PG4. Additional cables or interface equipment may be required for other radio systems.
Backup Communication Between Sites
Satellite PTT radios connected to VE-PG4 gateways can provide an alternate link between geographically separated radio systems. If terrestrial broadband or LTE connectivity becomes unavailable, the satellite radios can carry PTT audio between the sites through the Iridium network.
This configuration is practical for emergency management, utilities, public safety, remote operations, transportation, and organizations that need communication paths independent of local infrastructure.
Integrated Network and Telephone Functions
The VE-PG4 combines several functions in one unit, including:
- Radio over IP gateway
- SIP gateway and basic SIP server
- IP PBX functions
- IP router
- VPN tunnel support
- Controller for compatible ICOM IP radios
- External device and public-address integration
Combining these functions can reduce the number of separate network components needed in a communication system.
Wi-Fi and LTE Radio Management
The built-in controller can manage up to 50 compatible ICOM Wi-Fi communication terminals. Depending on the regional version and available service, the integrated cellular module can also connect compatible ICOM LTE radio groups to other radio systems.
LTE operation requires compatible service and a supported SIM configuration. Cellular bands and service availability vary by regional VE-PG4 version.
Call Recording and External Equipment
Incoming and outgoing calls can be recorded to a connected USB storage device. Up to four recording configurations can be programmed, with options for all, group, or individual calls.
External control ports can also connect devices such as speakers, public-address systems, warning lights, alarms, and sirens. This supports centralized announcements and automated alerts from connected radio or telephone systems.
Rack and Network Installation
The VE-PG4 uses a half-width 1U enclosure that can be installed with repeaters, switches, and other communications equipment. An optional MBF-6 bracket supports installation in a standard 19-inch rack.
Configuration and administration are completed through the network interface. The gateway also supports remote firmware updates, backup and restoration of settings, SNMP, system logging, SSH, and other network management tools.
