Roof Rack Installation

The vehicle mount uses two rails and four lower clamps to secure a compatible Kymeta u8 terminal or ODU to a vehicle roof rack. It provides a purpose-built mounting arrangement that supports the terminal’s low-profile design and communications-on-the-move capability.

Designed for Mobile Kymeta Systems

This kit is intended for land-mobile u8 installations where the terminal needs a stable mounting position with an unobstructed view of the sky. It can be used on service vehicles, mobile offices, field response vehicles, and other platforms equipped with suitable roof crossbars.

The vehicle mount does not provide electrical power. A compatible Kymeta vehicle power kit and appropriate satellite service configuration are required separately for an operational mobile system.

Installation Considerations

The vehicle roof rack must be properly rated for the combined load of the terminal and mounting equipment. Kymeta recommends professional installation and requires adequate space around the terminal for airflow, cable routing, and normal thermal expansion. At least 12 inches of open space should be maintained behind the terminal’s fans.

The included fasteners must be tightened according to Kymeta’s installation instructions. Vehicle handling, braking distance, fuel efficiency, and overall height may be affected after roof-mounted equipment is installed.

The kit includes the primary components needed to attach the u8 terminal to compatible roof crossbars:

• Bolt cover
• Padlock
• Temporary installation slider pads

Installation tools and thread-locking compound are not included.
