ACR LB3S SART Replacement Lithium Battery Pack
Description
Replacement Battery for safeSEA SARTs
The LB3S provides emergency power for compatible Ocean Signal safeSEA S100 and S200 Search and Rescue Transponders. These SARTs respond to compatible search-and-rescue radar, helping rescuers locate a liferaft, survival craft, or vessel in distress.
Only the specified Ocean Signal battery should be installed. Using another battery may invalidate the SART’s type approval and could affect its operation during an emergency.
Emergency Operating Capacity
When installed in the S100 SART, the LB3S provides up to 96 hours in standby mode and 12 hours of active operation while responding to radar interrogations. These operating times are specified at -20°C (-4°F), supporting emergency use in cold marine conditions.
The battery should be replaced before the expiration date printed on the module to maintain the full operating capacity required for emergency use.
Replace After Activation
The battery should be replaced after any period of SART operation, even when the full stated operating time was not used. The transponder’s protective activation tab should also be replaced after use, which requires service through an authorized provider.
A missing or broken activation tab indicates that the SART may have been operated and should be inspected before being returned to emergency storage.
Battery Installation
On the S100, the battery module is retained by a single hex-head screw. The existing pack is removed from the bottom of the SART, and the replacement is installed with its rubber seal correctly positioned. The retaining screw should not be tightened beyond 0.5 Nm.
Ocean Signal permits user replacement, but commercial vessels may have local shore-based maintenance requirements that require the work to be completed or documented by an authorized service provider. Maintenance records should be updated with the new battery expiration date.
Primary Lithium Construction
The LB3S is a sealed 3V lithium iron disulfide battery with a total lithium content below 2 g. It is a primary battery and must never be charged, opened, punctured, crushed, short-circuited, or exposed to fire.
Lithium-battery shipping restrictions may apply. The pack has passed UN 38.3 transport testing and is regulated as a Class 9 lithium-metal battery when shipped by itself.
