Lars Thrane LT-3160S Printer Adapter

Printed GMDSS Records

The LT-3160S provides the interface required to connect a supported external printer to a Lars Thrane GMDSS installation. Once installed, received Maritime Safety Information and safety messages can be recorded as printed copies for bridge reference, operational procedures, or regulatory documentation.

The adapter does not receive or process satellite messages independently. It operates as part of the vessel’s Lars Thrane GMDSS system.

LT-3100S System Integration

The printer adapter is designed for use with the Lars Thrane LT-3100S Iridium GMDSS System. It connects to the LT-3140S Interface Unit, which integrates the GMDSS system with bridge equipment such as printers and alarm panels.

The LT-3140S Interface Unit is required for this connection and should already be installed or included in the planned system configuration.

Centronics Printer Connection

The adapter provides a 36-pin Centronics interface conforming to IEEE 1284-B connector specifications. This supports compatible GMDSS printers equipped with the corresponding parallel printer connection.

Printer compatibility should be confirmed before ordering, since standard office printers may not meet the connection, operating, or approval requirements of a vessel’s GMDSS installation.

25-Meter System Cable

A 25-meter cable is attached to the adapter for connection to the LT-3140S Interface Unit. The cable carries the system connection through a four-wire CAN interface and provides sufficient length for many bridge, radio-room, and equipment-console installations.

The cable should be routed away from excessive heat, sharp edges, high-current wiring, and locations where it may be crushed or subjected to repeated movement.

Indoor Marine Installation

The LT-3160S is intended for indoor installation in a protected bridge or equipment space. Installation should be completed in accordance with the applicable Lars Thrane manuals and the vessel’s GMDSS requirements.
