Dual Cellular and Satellite Connectivity

The LTE modem turns the EXPLORER 540 into a hybrid cellular and BGAN terminal. When a suitable cellular network is available, equipment connected to the EXPLORER 540 can use that connection for routine data transfer. If cellular service becomes unavailable, the terminal can automatically switch to Inmarsat BGAN, depending on its configured routing and failover settings.

Designed for Remote M2M Systems

This modem is intended for fixed monitoring and control applications rather than general consumer internet access. Common applications include:

• Remote telemetry and equipment monitoring
• Asset tracking
• Environmental and utility monitoring
• Real-time surveillance
• Unmanned field installations

Using cellular service for routine traffic can help control satellite airtime use, while BGAN provides a secondary path for installations located beyond dependable terrestrial coverage.

Integrated Installation

The modem mounts at the rear of the EXPLORER 540 and uses a short internal micro-USB connection. Its cellular antenna is integrated into the modem housing, avoiding the need for a separate external antenna in standard installations. An optional extension kit is available when the modem must be mounted separately from the terminal.

Regional Modem Versions

Separate modem versions were produced for North American and Europe/APAC cellular networks. The correct version must be selected according to the installation region and intended carrier. A compatible cellular SIM and active service plan are required and are not included with the modem.

Environmental Protection

The modem carries an IP66 ingress-protection rating and is designed for outdoor equipment installations exposed to dust, rain, and changing temperatures. Its specified extended operating range is -40°C to 85°C. Proper installation is required to maintain the protection of the EXPLORER 540 enclosure.
