Intellian NJRC Ku-band Standard 40W GaN BUC (NJT8371UNMR) VCM-1501
The Intellian VCM-1501 is an NJRC NJT8371UNMR 40W block upconverter for compatible maritime VSAT systems. It converts a 950–1,700 MHz L-band modem signal into a 13.75–14.5 GHz universal Ku-band uplink signal and provides up to +46 dBm of saturated RF output.
The BUC uses an N-type IF input, separate DC power connection, WR-75 waveguide output, and RS-232C monitoring and control. Its weatherized, forced-air-cooled enclosure is designed for outdoor antenna installations requiring higher transmit power and remote operating-status management.
Satellite Phone Store supplies Intellian maritime VSAT systems and replacement RF components. Our team can help confirm the antenna model, BUC frequency range, power supply, and control interfaces before ordering.
Description
Universal Ku-Band Frequency Coverage
The NJT8371UNMR operates across the 13.75–14.5 GHz universal Ku-band uplink range. It accepts a 950–1,700 MHz IF input and uses a fixed 12.8 GHz local oscillator synchronized to an external 10 MHz reference supplied through the IF connection.
This wider frequency range supports compatible satellite networks operating both below and above the 14.0 GHz standard Ku-band boundary.
40W GaN RF Output
The BUC provides at least +46 dBm of saturated output at 25°C, equivalent to 40W. Its nominal linear gain is 72 dB, with a specified minimum of 66 dB. At +44 dBm output, typical adjacent-channel power ratio is rated at -30 dBc.
The higher output class is suited to compatible maritime terminals used for broadband data, operational communications, voice services, and crew connectivity.
RS-232C Monitoring and Control
The NJT8371UNMR includes an RS-232C interface for integration with compatible antenna and terminal controls. Supported functions include:
- Transmit output-power monitoring
- Internal-temperature monitoring
- Transmit-status and alarm reporting
- Transmit on/off control
- Step-attenuator monitoring and adjustment
The adjustable attenuator provides a 0–31.5 dB range in 0.5 dB steps.
Separate DC Power Connection
The N-type female connector carries the L-band IF signal and 10 MHz reference, while operating power is supplied through a separate circular MS connector. The BUC accepts 36–60V DC, with 48V DC as the nominal input.
Power consumption is approximately 120W without an IF signal, 220W at +44 dBm output, and up to 290W at saturated output. The installation must use a compatible power supply and wiring sized for the required load.
Outdoor Antenna Installation
The BUC is housed in a weatherized enclosure and uses forced-air cooling. Automatic protection shuts down the high-power amplifier if the local oscillator loses lock, the 10 MHz reference is absent, or an overtemperature condition occurs.
