The ACR rescueME MOB1 is a compact AIS man overboard beacon designed for installation inside a compatible inflatable life jacket. When the life jacket inflates, the beacon can activate automatically and begin transmitting the wearer’s GPS position within approximately 15 seconds. It can also be activated manually.

The MOB1 sends an AIS alert to compatible chartplotters and receivers on nearby vessels, while its DSC capability can trigger an alert on a programmed, compatible VHF radio. A high-intensity strobe helps rescuers locate the wearer in low-light conditions. It is ideal for sailors, offshore crews, commercial operators, and other boaters who need a life-jacket-mounted recovery aid.

Description

AIS Position Reporting

Once activated, the MOB1 uses its internal GPS receiver to determine the wearer’s position and broadcasts AIS man overboard messages to compatible receivers and chartplotters nearby. This allows the original vessel and other AIS-equipped vessels in the area to see the beacon’s location during recovery operations.

The manufacturer lists a typical range of up to five miles, although actual range depends on antenna position, sea conditions, receiver height, and surrounding obstructions.

DSC Crew Alerting

The integrated DSC transmitter can send an Individual Distress Relay alert to a compatible VHF radio after the vessel’s MMSI number has been programmed into the beacon. This provides an audible alert aboard the vessel in addition to the visual AIS target.

DSC functions depend on local regulations and radio compatibility. Older DSC radios may not recognize the individual relay call, so compatibility should be checked before relying on this feature.

Life Jacket Integration and Activation

The MOB1 is designed to fit inside many compact inflatable life jackets. The supplied mounting bracket attaches near the oral inflation tube, while the activation tape is positioned around the life jacket bladder.

When correctly installed and armed, inflation of the life jacket releases the antenna and activates the beacon automatically. Manual activation remains available when required. The life jacket manufacturer’s installation guidance should always be checked before fitting the beacon.

Strobe and Environmental Protection

A built-in high-intensity strobe provides a visual reference for rescuers, particularly at night or in reduced visibility. The beacon is waterproof to 10 meters and designed to withstand marine operating temperatures from -20°C to +55°C.

The MOB1 has also been tested for drops onto hard surfaces, water drops, vibration, and thermal shock.

Battery and Maintenance

The sealed lithium battery provides more than 12 hours of operation at -20°C, with typical operating life exceeding 24 hours under less demanding conditions. Its listed storage life is seven years.

Battery replacement must be completed by an authorized Ocean Signal service center before the marked expiration date or after the beacon has been used. Routine self-testing should follow the manufacturer’s recommended intervals because excessive testing can reduce available battery life.

Regional Compatibility

The MOB1 is not compliant with the newer AIS Class M standard and has been superseded by the MOB2 in the UK and European Union. Some European countries that have implemented ECC/DEC/(22)02 no longer permit use of the MOB1. Buyers should confirm current regulations for the country and waters where the beacon will be used.
