Features:

The ACR Ocean Signal SafeSea HR1E is a replacement hydrostatic release unit for compatible Ocean Signal Category I EPIRB housings. If a vessel sinks, the HR1E responds to water pressure and releases the EPIRB from its automatic-release housing, allowing the beacon to float to the surface and activate.

The HR1E is a date-controlled safety component that must be replaced every two years from its installation date. It is intended for compatible Ocean Signal automatic-release housings, including the ARH1 and ARH100 used with SafeSea E100 and E100G EPIRBs. Compatibility should be confirmed before ordering, particularly for newer Category I EPIRB Pro models.

Satellite Phone Store can help confirm the correct hydrostatic release unit for an existing EPIRB and housing, reducing the risk of ordering an incompatible replacement for critical marine safety equipment.

Description

Automatic EPIRB Release

The HR1E forms part of a Category I float-free EPIRB installation. When the vessel and EPIRB housing are submerged, increasing water pressure activates the hydrostatic mechanism. The unit releases the housing cover so the EPIRB can separate from its bracket, rise to the surface, and begin its normal emergency activation sequence.

This automatic deployment arrangement is intended for situations in which the crew may be unable to remove and activate the beacon manually.

Compatible Ocean Signal Housings

The HR1E is approved for use with Ocean Signal ARH1 and ARH100 automatic-release housings for SafeSea E100 and E100G EPIRBs. It is also associated with supported Ocean Signal Category I Pro EPIRB installations, but the housing and beacon model should always be checked before replacement.

The HR1E is not interchangeable with every ACR or Ocean Signal hydrostatic release. ACR Sea Shelter brackets, for example, generally use the separate ACR HydroFix HRU rather than the HR1E.

Scheduled Replacement

The HR1E must be replaced every two years from the date it is installed. The installation and expiration dates should be recorded on the supplied date label and checked as part of the vessel’s routine EPIRB inspection schedule.

Because the HRU is a time-limited safety component, it should not remain in service beyond its marked replacement date even if the EPIRB itself remains within its battery service life.

Battery-Free Operation

The hydrostatic release operates mechanically in response to water pressure and does not depend on the EPIRB battery or the vessel’s electrical system. Once correctly installed in the compatible housing, it remains ready without charging, wiring, or routine powered testing.

The EPIRB, housing, mounting location, release mechanism, and expiration label should still be inspected regularly for damage, obstruction, or incorrect installation.

Installation and Inspection

The replacement HRU should be fitted according to the instructions for the applicable Ocean Signal automatic-release housing. During installation:

  • Confirm that the HR1E matches the EPIRB housing.
  • Record the installation and replacement dates.
  • Make sure the release mechanism is correctly seated.
  • Verify that the housing cover closes without obstruction.
  • Inspect the EPIRB and bracket for damage or corrosion.

The EPIRB housing should be mounted where the beacon can float free without becoming trapped beneath railings, rigging, superstructure, or other equipment.
