No, Starlink Residential terms and conditions don't permit commercial use. Residential plans are intended solelyfor personal, non-commercial use.
- Default IPv4 (CGNAT) – clients receive a private IPv4 from the 100.64.0.0/10 range via DHCP.
- Public IPv4 – an optional DHCP-provided IPv4 address available to Priority, Mobile Priority, and Maritime customers.
- With CGNAT, inbound IPv4 connections are not supported directly.
- Public IP customers may host servers or connect via VPN, though the IP can still change. IPv6 inbound supportis often more reliable.
- There is no guaranteed static IPv4, so applications should accommodate IP changes.
No—Starlink does not offer true static IPs. IPv4 addresses are dynamically assigned, though the system tries tomaintain persistence where possible. Public IPs can change if the device is moved or during system updates. IPv6prefixes are similarly dynamic but delegated.
Starlink devices, particularly mobile ones, may receive new DHCP leases upon moving between ground stations, leading to IP changes and brief handoff interruptions. That applies even to the public IP option.
IPv4 addresses are leased every 5 minutes via DHCP, but Starlink tries to retain them for connected devices.Public IP reservations persist for up to 24 hours—even through short disconnections or reboots. After that, IPsmay enter the pool for reassignment.
When using CGNAT, all inbound IPv4 ports are blocked. Additionally, outbound TCP ports 25 (SMTP) and 445 (SMB)are restricted for security best practices.
Starlink provides native IPv6 across all devices and service plans. Each device typically receives a /64 IPv6prefix for WAN (via SLAAC) and a /56 IPv6 prefix for LAN (via DHCPv6‑PD).
Public IPv4 can be enabled by submitting a ticket to Satellite Phone Store to enable the setting. Once enabled,IP assignments can be setup. IPv6 prefixes are automatically available.
Starlink publishes geolocation data and IP prefixes via the Starlink Geo IP Database, and maintains PoP (point ofpresence) information using platforms like PeeringDB. This enables route optimization and helps in managinglatency and traffic routing.
