Dear Sue, I cannot tell you how great it was to have your Iridium Satellite phones during our latest "APACHE POWERBOAT" historical event.

The race boat Apache Star on August 1, 2015 broke the 50 year old World Speed Record from Key West, Florida to Havana, Cuba with one of your phones on board.
We had one phone on the Apache Star race boat and took a second phone with us in the helicopter to Havana.

Unfortunately after the Record was broken in Havana, the boat hit something submerged in the harbor and suffered damage to both of its propellers and had to be removed from the water for repairs.

This incident left two of us in Cuba with no Cuban approved planned passage to return to the United States.

In Cuba, the government disallows the use of any form of credit cards affiliated with US banks. We were left with only the cash on hand and your phones. US cell phones do not work in Cuba and to gain access to the internet is almost impossible and very very slow when access is acquired.

Via the use of your phones I was able to communicate with persons in the US to assist us and one week later we were able to leave Cuba and return to the United States.

I’d have to say that the customer service I received from the Satellite Phone Store was top notch. Very friendly and willing to listen to, and answer, all of my questions. My emails were answered in a reasonable amount of time and communication during the procurement process was on point. Last summer we were making a night passage off the California Big Sur Coast. Around midnight, we started losing all of our electronics, starting with the auto pilot, followed by GPS, radio, and lights. As we discovered later, our alternator had failed. Additionally, the wind increased and the sea state rapidly deteriorated. Our satellite phone saved us! We were able to contact the Coast Guard/Boat US to get the critical help we needed! Thank you!
