External Antenna Connection for the Iridium 9555

The Iridium 9555 normally communicates through its integrated handset antenna. Inside vehicles, buildings, vessel cabins, and other enclosed spaces, surrounding materials can obstruct the satellite signal.

The antenna adapter allows a compatible external Iridium antenna to be connected directly to the phone. The external antenna can then be placed outside or in another location with a clearer view of the sky while the handset remains indoors or within reach of the user.

Direct-Fit Handset Design

The adapter is shaped specifically for the Iridium 9555. It attaches around the lower section of the handset and aligns with the phone’s external antenna interface.

Because the fit and connection are model-specific, this adapter should not be used with the Iridium 9505A, Iridium Extreme 9575, Iridium GO!, or other Iridium products. Those devices require their own compatible adapters, docks, or antenna interfaces.

TNC Female Antenna Connection

The external antenna interface on the adapter is a TNC female connector. It is intended to mate with an Iridium antenna cable terminated with a TNC male connector.

Before installation, confirm the connector on the selected antenna or cable. Some antennas include a permanently attached TNC male cable, while other installations require a separate coaxial cable between the adapter and antenna.

Vehicle, Building, and Field Use

The adapter is suitable for temporary setups where permanent docking equipment is not required. Common applications include:

• Using an Iridium 9555 inside a vehicle
• Connecting to a roof-mounted magnetic antenna
• Operating the phone from inside a building or field shelter
• Temporary marine or remote-site communication setups
• Replacing a lost or damaged adapter from an Iridium 9555 kit

The adapter does not improve satellite coverage by itself. Reliable operation still depends on the external antenna having an unobstructed view of the sky and being installed according to its mounting requirements.

Passive Operation

The adapter is a passive accessory and does not require a power supply, battery, or software configuration. Once it is fitted to the handset and connected to a compatible antenna system, the Iridium 9555 uses the external antenna instead of relying solely on its integrated antenna.

The adapter does not charge the phone and does not provide USB data, audio, or docking functions. Users who require permanent power, hands-free calling, or integrated vehicle installation should consider a compatible Iridium 9555 docking station.

Replacement and Kit Compatibility

An antenna adapter was included with many original Iridium 9555 phone kits. This product can be used as a replacement when the original adapter has been lost or damaged.
