ASE Mobile Iridium PTT Link Box
Description
Radio-Style Iridium PTT Operation
The PTT Link allows an Iridium Extreme PTT handset to be operated with an S2-style palm speaker microphone. The handset can remain positioned where its antenna has a clearer view of the sky while the operator uses the attached microphone for listening and transmitting.
This arrangement is useful for field teams, first responders, security personnel, humanitarian organizations, and mobile operators accustomed to conventional land-mobile-radio equipment.
Standard and Amplified Audio Modes
Standard mode provides normal listening volume and the longest available battery runtime. Amplified mode increases speaker output for noisy or windy environments but reduces operating time. Three rapid presses of the microphone button switch between the two audio levels.
The audio mode resets to standard when the unit is deactivated.
Simple PTT Controls
Pressing and holding the palm microphone button wakes the PTT Link and sends a talk request through the connected Iridium handset. Five rapid button presses deactivate the unit.
LED indications provide quick status information:
- Green indicates the battery is charged.
- Red indicates a low battery.
- Continuous blinking indicates the battery is too low for operation.
- Audio-mode indications identify standard or amplified output.
Integrated Rechargeable Battery
The internal rechargeable battery provides up to 40 hours of operation in standard mode or approximately 8 hours in amplified mode. Charging typically takes four to five hours and uses a compatible 6V Iridium Extreme charger.
The PTT Link and connected phone continue consuming battery power until the unit is properly deactivated or disconnected.
Compact Mobile Configuration
At approximately 6 × 4 × 1 inches, the PTT Link can be carried with the handset or installed in a portable communications bag. An optional ASE holster is available for securing the handset, link module, and microphone together.
Unlike a complete vehicle dock, the PTT Link does not provide a fixed external antenna connection, permanent vehicle power, or mounting cradle by itself.
Handset and Adapter Requirements
The unit connects to the Iridium Extreme PTT through compatible Iridium charging or antenna-adapter hardware. When the handset’s antenna adapter is used, an external Iridium antenna must be connected because the handset antenna is disabled in that configuration.
The Iridium handset, charging or antenna adapter, external antenna, charger, and active PTT service are required separately unless specifically included in the selected package.
