Desktop Operation

The SM-26 provides a fixed microphone position for operators who regularly communicate from a desk, dispatch console, control room, or base station. Its desktop design avoids the need to repeatedly lift and replace a handheld microphone during frequent radio use.

The adjustable stem can be positioned toward the operator, while the broad base keeps the microphone stable during push-to-talk operation.

Focused Voice Pickup

The SM-26 uses a unidirectional dynamic microphone element that primarily picks up sound from the front of the microphone. This helps reduce unwanted sound arriving from other directions in busy offices, dispatch rooms, and operational workspaces.

A built-in preamplifier supports the microphone’s audio output when connected to compatible ICOM equipment.

Push-to-Talk and Monitor Controls

The desktop base includes a push-to-talk control for normal radio transmission and a separate monitor switch. The monitor control can provide access to a programmed radio monitoring function, depending on the connected radio and its configuration.

ICOM notes that the compatible transceiver must be programmed appropriately before the monitor switch can perform the monitor function.
