Replacement or Spare Power

Rechargeable batteries gradually lose capacity through age, storage, and repeated charging cycles. Replacing an older battery can restore more dependable operating time for an Iridium 9555 that no longer holds its charge as expected.

A second battery also provides practical backup power during remote travel, extended field assignments, emergency response work, and other situations where wall or vehicle charging may not always be available.

Iridium 9555 Operating Time

The standard battery supports up to 4 hours of talk time and up to 30 hours of standby time under suitable operating and network conditions. Actual runtime varies with signal strength, call activity, temperature, battery age, and how frequently the phone searches for the satellite network.

Keeping the handset where it has a clear view of the sky can reduce unnecessary network searching and help conserve power.

Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Design

The battery uses rechargeable lithium-ion chemistry and supplies 3.7V power to the handset. Its low-profile design fits directly onto the rear of the Iridium 9555 without significantly changing the phone’s normal size or handling.

The battery can be charged while installed in the phone using the appropriate AC or vehicle charger. Compatible standalone battery chargers can also be used when a spare battery needs to charge while the handset remains in operation.

Simple Installation

The battery attaches directly to the rear of the phone and can be removed without tools. To replace it, the existing battery is released using the handset latch, and the new battery is aligned and secured in place.

A new or stored battery should be fully charged before relying on it for travel or emergency communication. A complete initial charge generally takes a little over three hours when charged through the handset.

Storage and Battery Care

For better service life, the battery should be stored in a cool, dry location and protected from excessive heat, moisture, impact, and metal objects that could contact its terminals.

Lithium-ion batteries naturally discharge during storage. Spare batteries kept in emergency or field kits should therefore be inspected and recharged periodically rather than left unused for long periods.
