Iridium Coaxial Repeater Kit (IRIDKIT01X)
Description
Iridium Coverage Inside Enclosed Facilities
Iridium devices normally require a suitable view of the sky. The IRIDKIT01X transfers Iridium uplink and downlink signals between externally mounted antennas and indoor ceiling antennas, allowing compatible devices to operate from locations where the building structure blocks the satellite signal.
The system operates across the Iridium 1616–1626.5 MHz frequency range and supports both transmit and receive paths.
Dual Indoor Coverage Antennas
Two indoor ceiling-mounted antennas distribute the repeated signal through the intended operating area. This configuration can support indoor coverage across an area of up to approximately 5,000 square feet, although actual performance depends on ceiling height, room layout, construction materials, antenna placement, and obstructions.
Common installation locations include:
- Emergency and security operations rooms
- Military and civil-defense bunkers
- Offshore and maritime facilities
- Remote industrial control rooms
- Underground or reinforced work areas
Outdoor Antennas and Repeater Unit
The kit uses two external Iridium antennas to maintain communication with the satellite network. These antennas connect to the Sat-Light 4005-series outdoor repeater unit, which is rated IP65 for installation in exposed locations.
The repeater processes both the uplink signal from indoor Iridium equipment and the downlink signal received from the satellites. Its operating temperature range supports year-round use in many outdoor environments.
Cable Length and Installation Planning
The standard kit includes two 5-meter outdoor antenna cables and two 20-meter indoor antenna cables. The system can support longer indoor runs when the correct low-loss coaxial cable is used, including up to 40 meters with LMR-400 cable.
Repeater performance depends heavily on antenna separation, cable type, cable loss, and correct placement. A site assessment and professional installation are recommended, particularly in large, reinforced, underground, or multi-room facilities.
AC-Powered Operation
The repeater accepts 100–220 VAC, 50–60 Hz input power through its internal AC-to-DC power supply. The installation should include a stable power source and appropriate grounding and surge protection for the site.
