Description
Iridium Coverage Without Direct Sky View
Standard Iridium handheld devices require access to the satellite signal. The optical repeater places dedicated Iridium antennas outside the structure and redistributes the uplink and downlink signals through indoor antennas, allowing compatible Iridium devices to operate from protected interior areas.
The system operates across the 1616 to 1626.5 MHz Iridium frequency range and supports simultaneous uplink and downlink communication. The current system description states support for up to three satellite phones operating simultaneously.
RF-over-Fiber Signal Distribution
The outdoor unit converts the Iridium radio signal for transmission over dual single-mode fiber. The indoor unit converts it back to RF and distributes it through ceiling-mounted antennas within the operating area.
The system supports fiber runs up to 3 kilometers with a maximum specified optical loss of 2 dB. Additional indoor antennas and power dividers can be used to extend coverage through larger or divided facilities.
Suitable for Protected and Complex Facilities
The repeater is intended for installations where the building structure blocks satellite signals or where personnel must remain inside during operations. Common applications include:

Outdoor and Indoor Equipment
The G4000 Series outdoor unit carries an IP65 environmental rating and connects to two outdoor Iridium antennas. Inside, the system can use either a 19-inch 1RU chassis or a compact indoor unit, depending on the selected configuration. Dual indoor ceiling antennas distribute the repeated signal within the facility.
The outdoor unit is rated for operation from -30°C to 55°C, while the compact indoor unit is rated from -20°C to 55°C.
Installation and System Planning
Coverage depends on the building layout, construction materials, indoor antenna locations, and required operating area. Larger installations may require additional antennas, RF dividers, coaxial cables, and a site-specific link design.
Pre-connectorized fiber is available in different lengths but is listed as an option rather than a standard component of the base kit. The repeater relays Iridium signals and therefore still requires compatible Iridium devices, SIM cards, and active service.
