Thuraya FDU-XT (Fixed Docking Unit)
Description
Indoor Thuraya Satellite Access
Satellite phones require a suitable view toward the satellite and may not work reliably from inside a building. The FDU-XT allows its satellite and GPS antennas to be installed outdoors while the docking unit and phone remain accessible inside.
This configuration is suited to homes, offices, remote facilities, emergency coordination centers, field bases, and other fixed locations within the Thuraya coverage area. The dock may be used as a desktop unit or secured to a wall with the included mounting hardware.
Flexible Voice Calling
Calls can be handled through the included auxiliary handset or the docking unit’s speakerphone. An analog extension telephone may also be connected, allowing the Thuraya service to be accessed from a familiar corded phone or through a compatible PABX system.
The docked Thuraya handset remains the satellite transceiver and must contain an activated SIM with a compatible service plan.
Data and Fax Connections
The FDU-XT supports GmPRS packet data and circuit-switched data at speeds up to 9.6 kbps. A connected computer can use these services for basic email, low-bandwidth data transfer, and compatible applications.
The unit also supports selected Group 3 analog fax machines and PC-based fax operation at up to 9.6 kbps. Data and fax performance depends on the connected equipment, Thuraya service, signal quality, and software configuration.
External Satellite and GPS Antennas
The supplied satellite and GPS antennas include 25-meter cables, allowing them to be positioned outside the building with a suitable view of the sky. Correct antenna placement and alignment are important for maintaining satellite connectivity and GPS reception.
The satellite antenna should be installed with a clear view toward the Thuraya satellite serving the operating region. Cable routing should avoid sharp bends, damage, and unnecessary extensions that could affect performance.
Power and Handset Charging
The FDU-XT operates from the included universal 110–240 VAC power supply and accepts supported 12 VDC, 24 VDC, or 34 VDC input configurations. While powered, the docking unit charges the installed Thuraya handset so it remains ready for portable use when removed from the cradle.
